How We Met
Orchard Hill at UMass Amherst
Kate Mawhinney and Matthew Holmes met each other at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in September 2000. They both lived on the same floor of Grayson, a dorm in the Orchard Hill area of UMass. Kate and Matt were invited to watch wrestling in the resident assistant's room and first met each other on the RA's couch. Kate and Matt went on to become friends. Kate told Matt that he would never be able to study again while she was around. One day Matt asked Kate out to dinner in Northampton, Massachusetts. That first date blossomed into a long, loving relationship. To this day, Kate and Matt do not understand why they decided to watch wrestling that day because they would never watch it ever again.
How Matt Proposed
After six years of dating, Matt proposed to Kate on December 22, 2006 at the spot where they had their first kiss; the bus stop in front of the post office in Northampton, MA.

Kate is a high school Spanish and French teacher in Massachusetts.
